What can you do in a hotel room with no working wifi other than watch Ethiopian soaps?
To be fair the acting is much better than expected. I had them all day on the journey from Addis to Dire Dawa.
Why has Dennis Franz just turned up? Why is everyone white? Why is it dubbed into German with
So many questions.
The bus passengers earlier were thoroughly engrossed in a homegrown show.
I was getting the stare of death for not cheering/weeping along.
It was quite good but it was taking me a good ten minutes longer than everyone else to get it.
Even now, I'm not sure.
Handsome Young Man and Wise Old Man with beard (Think Ethiopian Col Sanders) somehow come
into possession of a Small Child. Small Child is some kind of genius (judging by Col Sander
s look of astonishment every time he speaks)
A Good Looking Young Woman, who might or might not be in a relationship with Handsome Young
Man wanders around crying a lot and giving Genius Child sympathetic looks.
They all end up in front of a judge and emerge from the courtroom cheering,
Alas! Someone tells Handsome Young Man something in sombre Amharic and
everyone looks shocked. Good Looking Young Woman starts crying again and someone gives her a sheet of paper with the name of a clinic on it, helpfully in English. The rest of the text is in Amharic but it seems
someone (guessing any of them except Wise Old Man) has Aids.
Everyone shouts, screams and cries.
Someone starts shoulder dancing and wailing about a fantastic new vacuum cleaner only costing
Oh wait, someone's recorded the commercials.
We return to find Good Looking Young Woman sat outside a shack in downtown Addis Ababa.
She is crying again.
Looking inside the shack, she gets a shock and begins desperate CPR on Genius Child (who for some
reason appears to have been residing in there)
Amid panicked shouts of what sounds like Bunna!
(Black Ethiopian Coffee without milk) she brings him back to life.
Rest of the film,he's laying in a hospital bed with a sound boom clearly visible over his shoulder while the rest of them crowd around crying, looking wise and posing.
I missed the end as I fell asleep.
