I’m actually beginning to really enjoy myself here.
Instead of shuffling along looking terrified every time someone screams “CAT! CAT! CAT!” at me and lunges I’ve been attempting to interact.
Obviously not with the gnarly old ones waving huge sticks but with most people in general.
Ethiopians seem like a pretty friendly if definitely not chilled out bunch.
I haven’t seen bemused staring quite like it since my days in County Durham but it doesn’t seem to be malicious for the most part. I even had a conversation (of sorts) with one guy selling toilet paper sheets and tomatoes by the roadside.
I’ve managed to tick Sishu Burger and Embwa Creamery off my list. Sishu was ok, if in an odd location, a warehouse right opposite an abattoir. Embwa wasn’t quite so friendly, interestingly Embwa seemed to have a few Westerners in it.
The power is still down and has been for hours. Apparently this is normal. It might be back on in a minute or it might be out for a week.
No one knows-or particularly seems to care.
