,,,Years ago, I lived in a backpackers hostel. I wasn't homeless or anything, in fact considering I had no degree at the time I had an incredibly good job in the media sector. Out of stubbornness/unwilling to pay council tax/TV licence/frustration with London rents, I joined the long term Aussie barmen, life's pathetic middle aged losers and the occasional confused Japanese tourist. None of this was especially unusual. Chances are the Government were and probably still are too out of touch to realise that actual would-be tax payers are living as backpackers in grotty dorms.
The worst was a place in South London, owned by the management of an actual 'tourist' *gasp* hostel up the road, the long termers were housed in an old pub near the Elephant and Castle. A Grenfell Tower waiting to happen, I'd return from work to find a cooker blazing and a half dead junkie spark out on the kitchen floor. Whilst the place I've spent the last week as a resident of in Warsaw isn't quite that bad it's pretty frustrating....
